2024.12.29 She was set on fire and no one knows her name. How homelessness, crime and a broken immigration system met in a subway car
CNN — It’s been a week since a woman died in a New York City subway car, allegedly set on fire by a homeless, undocumented man. She has yet to be identified and the man charged with her murder says he doesn’t even remember being there.
The crime has renewed focus on a set of multilayered and inextricable issues felt almost daily in America’s biggest city: homelessness, crime and the nation’s broken immigration system.
The killing’s gruesome details and videos from the scene spread quickly on social media, leaving lawmakers in New York to highlight the city’s failure to provide housing, address the ongoing mental health crisis and improve public safety.

TEXAS COUNTY, Mo. — A man has been charged after attempting to break into a rural Texas County home and being shot at by the homeowner.
According to online court documents, Paul L. Johnson has been charged with first-degree assault, first-degree burglary and second-degree harassment.
In a probable cause statement from the Texas County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), deputies said the victim and his wife said Johnson had knocked on their door at around 5 a.m. on Christmas Day, speaking nonsense. The victim said he had escorted Johnson off the property.
Hours later, documents say, Johnson returned and attempted to force his way into the victim’s home by kicking or banging on the door. Armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, documents say the victim opened the door and attempted to fire at Johnson, but the gun did not go off.
Johnson attempted to grab the gun from the victim, documents say, and they continued to fight over the firearm. When Johnson told the victim he was done fighting, he then ran off while the victim fired multiple times into the ground.
Documents say that in an interview with deputies, Johnson said he had gone to the victim’s home to speak to the victim’s daughter, in whom he was interested. When informed that the girl was underage, documents say Johnson stated he must have been interested in the victim’s sister. Johnson also admitted to drinking rum that morning.

An Oklahoma woman was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 24 after her baby was allegedly abandoned at a Florida hotel and casino.

Rubi Verduzco, 29, was taken into custody on two counts of felony child neglect.

A police officer was called to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood on Christmas Eve and “observed an infant wearing a soiled diaper out in the open elements,” according to a Seminole Police Department probable cause affidavit.

An employee told the officer that three men had left the baby by the bell desk and walked away. The baby was allegedly alone for about 30 minutes before the officer arrived.

The officer wrote in the affidavit that Verduzco arrived about 15 minutes later, alleging “she fought with her ‘Baby Daddy,’ and the baby was left with some unknown friends whom she was unable to name.”
She allegedly appeared “very intoxicated, displaying bloodshot, watery eyes, slurring of her speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.”

Verduzco allegedly told police the baby’s name but was unsure of the date of birth, per the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, she called a man who told police he was the baby’s father, and he was in Oklahoma. He allegedly said the state should take custody of the child.

The man soon called back and told the officer that he was actually in Orlando and “wasn’t sure if he could come to the Hard Rock and retrieve his child,” per the affidavit. The officer said he could not verify whether the man was actually the baby’s father.

The officer said Verduzco was arrested due to “not knowing who, where, or for what length of time she left her baby.”

The Florida Department of Children and Families took custody of the infant. Verduzco was booked into Broward County jail on a $2,500 bond, per NBC6.

2024.12.27 Do Kwon será extraditado a EE.

Do Kwon será extraditado a EE.

En Estados Unidos, Do Kwon afronta múltiples acusaciones criminales.
