Two illegal Bangladeshi nationals—a father and son—have been apprehended by the Versova police for allegedly entering India by swimming across the Padma river in a manner akin to how Shariful Islam, the alleged attacker of actor Saif Ali Khan, crossed the Dawki river seven months ago. The authorities discovered that both individuals worked for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on a contractual basis.
The accused, Bukhtiyar Dosur Sheikh, 70, and his son, Moner, 35, were residing at Yari Road in Versova, Andheri West. They hail from Andulbaria village in the Jibannagar upazila of the Khulna division’s Chuadanga district in Dhaka. Investigations revealed security lapses along rivers at the India-Bangladesh border.
The Ganges, upon entering Bangladesh, is referred to as the Padma. Approximately 54 rivers that form the border between India and Bangladesh, and authorities suspect security lapses along these riverine borders. According to a police officer, Bukhtiyar and Moner entered India eight years ago via the Padma after informing their family that they would return after making money in India, but they never did.

A police officer stated, “The accused revealed that in April and March, sections of the Padma in Bangladesh tend to dry up, and thanks to low water levels, they managed to enter India from Bangladesh eight years ago. Later, they started working as labourers.” “Subsequently, they met a contractor who enables people to work for the BMC as sweepers. The duo took up the job and have been working under the contractor for many years. Authorities have not yet found any Indian documents on them,” the officer added.
Investigating officer PSI Sachin Ugale of Versova police station said, “Late on Wednesday night, the duo was spotted roaming in the area. We suspected that they were under the influence of drugs. When we took them into custody, after they failed to provide their identity, they revealed that they were Bangladeshi nationals.” “We arrested them for allegedly entering India without any valid passport or visa,” he added.

2025.2.1 Telangana shocker! Two women spend 4 days with mother’s body in Secunderabad
Telangana: Some of the neighbours said the women kept their mother’s body at home as they had no money for cremation.
Telangana: In a shocking incident, two young women spent four days with the corpse of their mother at their house in Telangana’s Secunderabad, the twin city of Hyderabad. The incident came to light on Friday (January 31) after the police entered the house following complaints by neighbours about foul smell.
Police said the sisters appear to be mentally disturbed. Both were shifted to a hospital for examination. They have been identified as Ravalika (25) and Ashwitha (22). Police shifted the decomposed body of the deceased woman Sri Lalitha (45) to Gandhi Hospital for autopsy. A police officer said the cause of death was under investigation. Police suspect the woman died four days ago.
The family was living in a rented house in Warasiguda. The woman is believed to have died of cardiac arrest and her daughters were too shocked to reveal this to anyone. They did not leave the house and chose to stay with the corpse. Police found the body of the mother in one room while her two daughters were in another room. The young women also reportedly tried to end their lives by cutting their wrists.
Police registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances and took up investigation. The house owner said the family had taken the house on rent two months ago. She said they kept two dogs chained inside the house. The owner said she had asked the family to vacate the house.
Police, however, said the reason for Sri Lalitha’s daughters staying with the body in the house would be known only after their statements were recorded.
On the direction of Secunderabad MLA T Padmarao Goud, police shifted the two sisters to a hospital for examination. It was immediately not known how long it would take for the police to record their statements.
2025.2.1 E-rickshaw driver assaulted and robbed in Siliguri, two arrested
Siliguri, 01st February: The NJP police have arrested two individuals in connection with the assault and robbery of an e-rickshaw (toto) driver. The accused, identified as Amardeep Soni and Mohammad Ali Raja, are residents of the NJP area.
According to reports, Sariful Hussain, an e-rickshaw driver from Jotiakali, was returning home after dropping off passengers at NJP late on Friday night. Two youths arrived on a scooty in the DS Colony area, which is a short distance from the NJP police station, and stopped Hussain’s toto. They allegedly beat him up before taking him to the NJP Netaji More area, where they robbed him of Rs 2,000 and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Sariful Hussain filed a written complaint with the NJP police station on Friday. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the two robbers from the NJP Railway Hospital More on the same night, recovering cash from them. However, the mobile phone was not recovered.
Police sources indicate that the two accused have been involved in criminal activities for a long time. The arrested individuals were presented before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
